CHOCAHOLICS can rejoice — the tasty treat may reduce long term risks of stroke.
Researchers in Sweden found men who scoff the MOST chocs have the healthiest outlook.
They say lads who ate the highest amounts of chocolate each week were 17 per cent less likely to suffer a stroke over ten years than those who ate none.
A total of 37,103 Swedish men aged 49 to 75 took part in a study of their diet. Their progress was followed for a decade — with 1,995 cases of first stroke recorded.
Dr Susanna Larsson said: “Flavonoids in chocolate appear to be protective against cardiovascular disease through antioxidant, anti-clotting and anti-inflammatory properties.”
But the Karolinska Institute scientists also warned “Because chocolate is high in sugar, saturated fat, and calories, it should be consumed in moderation.”
